SSC photo & signature size tool
SSC applications (CGL, CHSL, GD, MTS and the rest) enforce strict upload rules, and the photo is one of the top reasons forms get rejected. The tool below is preset to SSC’s photo requirement — a 3.5 × 4.5 cm JPEG between 20 and 50 KB — and center-crops your image to the right proportions on your own device.
For the signature, set the target to 15 KB (the requirement is 10–20 KB) and crop your scan tightly around the ink before dropping it in.
SSC photo preset: 3.5 × 4.5 cm (413 × 531 px at 300 DPI), JPEG, 20–50 KB.

Output is fixed at 413×531px (center-cropped to fit, not stretched).
How it works
- Open this page — the compressor is already set for “SSC photo & signature size tool”.
- Drop your image into the box, click to browse, or paste it with Ctrl+V.
- The tool re-encodes the image on your own device until it fits the target — nothing is uploaded.
- Check the preview and file size on the result card, then download.

Tips for a first-try acceptance
- Scan or photograph the printed photo at 300 DPI (or equivalent) — starting from a sharp original matters more than any compression setting.
- The date printed on the photograph must stay legible after compression. This preset keeps quality high enough that it will be, but check the preview before uploading.
- Compress the photo and signature separately with their own targets — one at 45 KB, one at 15 KB.
- The output lands mid-band on purpose: files at exactly 20 or 50 KB can fail validation if the portal measures size slightly differently than your computer.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my SSC photo getting rejected even though it’s under 50 KB?
Size is only one check. Common failures: the photo is older than three months or missing the printed date, the background is busy, the dimensions are wrong (portals check proportions), or the file isn’t actually a JPEG. Our rejection guide walks through each error.
Can I use a phone selfie for the SSC photo?
The requirement is a recent passport-style photograph with the date printed on it — in practice, a studio photo or a properly-lit front-facing photo printed and re-scanned with the date. A casual selfie with a busy background is likely to be rejected during verification.
Is it safe to put my photo and signature into this tool?
They never leave your device. The compression runs in your browser — you can watch the Network tab in DevTools and see that no upload happens. Your signature especially should never be uploaded to a random server.
